The location of the noise also differs from person to person. Tinnitus can be found in either one or both ears and sound like it is close or far away. As people age, tiny sensory hair cells in the cochlea of the inner ear that process sound begin to deteriorate naturally. As the tiny sensory cells in the cochlea are the start of processing sound, hearing loss tends to be found in people with tinnitus.
